How long does counseling take?
Counseling usually ends when the problem(s) you sought counseling for are improved or have been resolved.  Depending on your insurance plan, you may have unlimited visits; note that some insurance plans/Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) limit the number of sessions.  Our office will work with your insurance/EAP company and inform you if there are any limitations to the number of sessions you can have.  During the first few sessions we can assess approximately the length of time we will need and/or how we will plan to most effectively utilize a limited number of sessions if a limitation applies to you.
CLIENTS' FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will my health insurance cover counseling?
Your health insurance will pay for counseling as long as you have mental health benefits.  If you are unsure, contact the patient benefits office of your insurance company to find out.  Usually there are phone numbers on the back of your card, and often the card will state whether or not you have mental health benefits.  But if you are unsure, it is best to call first to find out.  Our office can verify your insurance for you.  This usually takes 24-48 hours.
How much will counseling cost?
If you have insurancewe will verify your coverage and check if you have met your deductible, if there is one.  You may have a copayment (which is a percentage of the total fee for services).  The copay varies from policy to policy, even with the same insurer.  If our office is in network, we can easily find out what your copay is when we verify your insurance.  If we are out of network with your insurer, you may be able to pay us directly and then bill your insurance.  In any event, our office works with clients and insurers to make it easier for everyone to have the correct information right from day one.  All fees/copayments are due on the date of service.

If you are private payyou may pay with credit/debit cards, checks or cash.  All fees must be collected on the date of service.

What will my first session be like?
The most important thing for the client and counselor is the establishment of trust in the therapeutic relationship.  The first session is primarily informational.  We will focus on your Client Intake Form information and talk to you about your reasons for seeking counseling for yourself or your child.  In this way the counselor can work with you on a specific focus of therapy.  If the counseling is for your child, parent(s) will meet with the counselor and child initially.  During that same session, once information is gathered, the therapist will meet with the child alone.
